Announcing the 2016 Outstanding Reviewers
May 12, 2017
"Peer review is at the heart of the research ecosystem.”—Publons, 2016 SpotOn Report
Heart, backbone, foundation, mainstay, core, whichever word you use, peer review is fundamental to the scholarly publishing of science. Yet, the volunteer efforts of peer review are not often formally recognized or rewarded. Addressing this paucity in recognition is possible. New initiatives and tools are committed to ensuring peer review stays a “pillar of research quality and integrity”.
Last year Canadian Science Publishing shared its inaugural cohort of Outstanding Reviewers. This year, we extend our congratulations and appreciation to those selected as part of our Outstanding Reviewers program for 2016.
To us, Outstanding Reviewers are those individuals who are recognized by our Editors and Editorial Boards as going beyond expectations by consistently and expeditiously delivering comprehensive, discerning reviews. The criteria involved in these selections include (1) the number of reviews conducted per year (including reviews of re-submitted manuscripts); (2) a reviewer ranking score provided by our Associate Editors to indicate the quality and constructiveness of each of the reviews that were undertaken; and (3) the timeliness of review completion.
Together, these criteria help us to identify those individuals that we consider to be truly outstanding reviewers. Of course, the list is certainly not exhaustive and we are extremely grateful to all of our reviewers, but these individuals emerge as being our most frequent, timely, and constructive reviewers.
Each year for each of our journals we publish a list of reviewer names to recognize the exceptional efforts of those who review manuscripts submitted to the Canadian Science Publishing family of journals.
We thank all of our dedicated reviewers for their contributions.
