Introducing the #CreativeFACETS Twitter Contest

At CSP we’re always interested in learning about the creative ways researchers share their science. From #sciart to science poetry to science communication and more, highlighting the various ways researchers share their work inspires us daily. The need to creatively share science is especially prevalent among interdisciplinary researchers who cross traditional academic boundaries, making connections across various fields of inquiry, and finding new ways to communicate their science to diverse audiences. Interdisciplinary research is a major focus of our new open access journal, FACETS, which includes the Integrative Sciences section—a section dedicated to papers that bridge traditional disciplines.

We want to feature the creative ways you share your interdisciplinary research! To do so, we’re excited to introduce the #CreativeFACETS contest—an opportunity to dust off your previous science communication tools and tactics or to create new ones—all with the goal of communicating interdisciplinary research in fun and innovative ways.

Here is how it will work:

Describe your science and how it blurs the lines that separate different fields with a creative representation or piece of work: write a poem, paint a picture, choreograph a dance, vlog—the possibilities are endless. All representations of creatively sharing your science will be accepted!

All submissions should be made on Twitter by tagging @FACETSJournal and using the hashtag #CreativeFACETS.

Each individual is limited to one submission of any particular form. You can enter as many times as you like, but if you have already submitted a sketch, maybe try writing a song or penning a poem the next time you enter.

You’ll have three chances to win. Five winners will be randomly selected every two weeks and notified on Twitter.

We’ll be announcing winners on:

July 29
August 12
August 26

What’s in it for you?

Creatively describing your science will help you present and write it better. It’s an opportunity to take a step back from your computer screen and think about your research in a different way. The more ways in which you share and communicate your work, the more widely it will be viewed and shared by others, extending its reach and impact. You’ll also be entered into a bi-weekly draw to win some great FACETS swag including mugs and t-shirts. Most importantly, it’s fun!

Expanding the reach of scientific research is one of the key goals of FACETS and we encourage all interdisciplinary researchers interested in publishing as open access to consider submitting to FACETS. In the meantime, we are excited to see what you will come up with for the #CreativeFACETS contest!
